Profile

Sean graduated from the School of Medicine, University College Cork, Ireland.

On completion of  internship and BST in the Cork hospitals he moved to the UK for specialist training in Oncology, initially in Imperial College London and then Oxford. He completed his Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2015. In 2016 he was awarded a CRUK Clinical Research Fellowship at the Oxford Institute of Radiation Oncology and was subsequently awarded a PhD from the University of Oxford for his research into mechanisms of radioresistance in rectal cancer. He also holds an MsC in Oncology from the Institute of Cancer Research. In 2020 he took up an Academic Oncology post as Clinical Senior Lecturer & Honorary Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Institute of Cancer Sciences and Beatson Cancer Centre, Glasgow. There, he was Co-Lead of the Clinical Research workpackage at the CRUK Glasgow RadNet Centre of Excellence, led several early and late phase clinical trials and carried out a translational research program in rectal cancer. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2023. He returned to Ireland in 2023 to take up his post as Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Cork University Hospital.
