Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Cork University Hospital.
Special Interest:
Breast & Endocrine disease for which he serves as Lead Clinician.
Graduated:
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland 1983. BSc (1st Class Honours) in Anatomy, completed surgical training in Dublin.
2 years as a Surgical Oncology Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, awarded MCh degree NUI. Established research laboratory at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, 1991. Senior Surgical Registrar for 3 years, before being appointed Senior Lecturer in Surgery in Beaumont Hospital and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, 1995.
Appointed Head of Department of Surgery, CUH/UCC, 1997.
Professor Redmond has served on numerous national and international bodies including acting as Director of the Scientific Committee for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Membership Director for the Society of Academic and Research Surgery and was Chair of the Irish national Cancer Forum from 2003-6. Author/co-Author of over 300 research publications, book chapters and books.
Professor Redmond has led the development of the Cork Breast Service based at CUH and leads the Cork Private Breast Clinic.
Also established the Cork Minimally Invasive Endocrine Surgical service for diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. Other interests include Melanoma and Sarcoma.
