Professor Colin Hawkes
Profile
Prof. Hawkes is a graduate of University College Cork. He trained in paediatric endocrinology in Ireland before completing fellowship training in paediatric endocrinology at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, the top ranked Endocrinology Centre in the United States. He was appointed as a Consultant at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2015 and also as the Clinical Director of their Diabetes Centre. He returned to Ireland in 2020 when he was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at Cork University Hospital.
He is currently an advisor to the Endocrinology programme of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. His primary research is focused on the evaluation of children with short stature and disorders of growth and puberty, as well as on thyroid disorders and diabetes. Prof. Hawkes has published over 80 articles and book chapters. He also specializes in the endocrine late effects of cancer treatment.
In addition, Prof Hawkes holds a number of international leadership positions in paediatric endocrinology. He is a member and chair of a number of subcommittees of the Paediatric Endocrine Society of North America, and is also member of the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
