Profile

Prof. Colin Hawkes is an Associate Professor and Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist with extensive international experience in the assessment and management of children with growth and hormone-related conditions. He is widely recognised for his expertise in short stature, disorders of puberty, and complex growth concerns, and sees children and families from across Ireland for specialist evaluation.

A graduate of University College Cork, Prof. Hawkes completed his specialist training in paediatric endocrinology in Ireland before undertaking advanced fellowship training at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia—one of the world's leading centres for paediatric endocrinology. He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he also served as Clinical Director of the Diabetes Centre. He returned to Ireland in 2020 to take up a Consultant post at Cork University Hospital.

His clinic focuses on providing clear answers, thorough assessment, and practical guidance tailored to each child.

His clinical interests include:

  • Short stature and poor growth
  • Early or delayed puberty
  • Thyroid disorders
